IPL Pigmentation Treatment.
Utilising the latest FDA approved technology, our Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Laser works to safely and effectively target and treat unwanted pigmentation; delivering a long-term solution for the removal pigmentation, caused by sun-damage, freckles, age-spots and liver-spots.
how does ipl work
IPL Works by emitting safe, controlled pulses of filtered light which is absorbed by the melanin chromophores found within the targeted pigmented lesions. The light absorbed into the tissue, is converted into heat and causes the destruction and break down of the targeted pigmented cells.
how many sessions are required?
The number of treatments you will require will vary dependant on your personal requirements. For optimum results, an initial programme of between 2 - 6 treatments is generally recommended, taken at 4 - 6 weekly intervals. Dependent on your personal recommendations, maintenance treatments can be performed thereafter as advised by your skin expert.
what results should i expect?
Following treatment, skin may feel a little flushed and this will subside quickly. The pigmented lesions will appear ‘flaky’ for a few days. A mild crust will form and will naturally flake away leaving the complexion even and brighter. Full results will be seen in approximately 4 weeks post treatment.
will i need a patch test?
Yes. At the core of the treatment is our IPL treatment. Prior to the treatment, you will be asked to attend an in-depth consultation and patch test to assess your suitability for treatment. At this stage your laser therapist will explain the full treatment procedure to you and answer any questions you may have.
Is there any down time?
Immediately after treatment, mild erythema of the surrounding tissue may occur and a mild, flushed sensation may continue for a few days. The pigmented-lesions that were targeted during treatment will darken as they appear to move to the surface of the skin. A crusting, ‘dirty’ appearance will occur and the lesions will gradually flake away, leaving the complexion more even and brighter.
is ipl safe?
Yes. The IPL Laser only targets the melanin chromophores in the skin, leaving the surrounding skin and tissue unharmed. You may experience some mild erythema immediately after treatment however, this is normal and will subside shortly after. Your laser specialist will ensure you are aware of your pre and post care, at every appointment.
