IPL Acne Treatment.
Acne occurs when the sebaceous glands overproduce an oily substance called sebum. When extra sebum becomes trapped in the hair follicles, the skin can become irritated and leads to the appearance of papules on the face. If left untreated, some forms of acne can lead to permanent scarring.
Medical grade IPL Laser technology can effectively support and treat acne prone skins, successfully reducing the number and severity of active lesions across the skin.
how does ipl laser work for acne ?
If you are looking to reduce the appearance of redness, lessen inflammation and the frequency of your breakouts, acne-prone skin can be effectively treated with medical grade IPL Laser as a standalone treatment or in combination with other clinical treatments such as peels and light therapies.
The FDA approved Candela Nordlys system, treats acne by targeting the sebaceous glands to slow down the production of sebum. The system delivers short, bursts of controlled light directed at the skin. Using the patented Dual Mode Filtering technology, the system filters the light to ensure that only the wavelengths necessary for the treatment are used. This works to greatly reduce the total number and the severity of the active lesions and helps to lessen the inflammation and occurrence of break-outs.
The IPL light also stimulates the production of new collagen to improve skin texture and repair the damage caused by acne infection. Treatment will further treat the appearance of any present pigmentation (red/brown marks) which is often associated with acne breakouts.
WHO IS SUITABLE FOR IPL?
Almost all clients are able to be treated with IPL, with the exception of Fitzpatrick skin type V-VI. It is also best not to receive treatment with IPL if you are pregnant or taking Roaccutane. Your therapist will discuss your personal health history during consultation to assess and determine your suitability for treatment.
What results should be expected?
Immediately following IPL Laser Acne treatment, the skin may feel warm and mild erythema present; this will subside within short period of time. Any pigmented areas visible within the treatment site may darken and disappear.
How many ipl treatments are
recommended?
The number of treatments recommended for the treatment of Acne varies with every client and this will be discussed, based on your personal requirements at consultation. Typically, between 4-6 IPL treatments will be required to achieve a significant improvement.
IS IPL SAFE?
Yes. The IPL light only targets the desired chromophores in the skin, leaving the surrounding skin and tissue unharmed. You may experience some mild erythema immediately after treatment; this is completely normal and will subside. Your IPL/Laser specialist will ensure you are aware of your pre and post care, at every appointment.
Prior to commencing with any IPL treatment, you will be asked to attend an in-depth consultation and patch test - to assess your suitability for treatment. At this stage, your aesthetic therapist will explain the full treatment procedure to you and answer any questions you may have.
